Susan Lundin has a love of color and patterning. She has a background in photographic modeling, theatre, and costume design; all of which are rich sources of inspiration for her work. Lundin uses her imagination and these influences to abstract realism and create illusion. Some of her favorite artists are Rosenquist, Kandinsky, O'Keefe, and Diebenkorn. She is also influenced by and interested in Art Deco design. Personal expression, vision, and a love of creativity are what drive her to create.
Lundin absorbs energy from and is a keen observer of her surroundings. This is especially true for the people she is with and their emotions. Using this energy source, the work emerges organically through the use of brush, form, line, and color. She is very process oriented. The work takes on a life of its own as she uses watercolor or oils on canvas. The result is a painting which is infused with sensuality and emotion.
She loves to create while traveling, especially in sunny, warm climates. Some of her favorite destinations have been Portugal, France, Costa Rica, Miami, and Palm Beach. The paintings are alive, energized by what she sees on these trips. She is very prolific both during and after her travels. "It's easy to be inspired while surrounded by inspiration." She brings that vital energy back to her studio where it transfers and dances into her compositions.
